"It was a pretty nasty bang": Freddie Flintoff airlifted to hospital

Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff is recovering from a "nasty" accident while filming for Top Gear, according to his friend Piers Morgan.

The former English cricketer, 45, was airlifted to hospital on Tuesday after receiving medical care at the scene, following a crash at an aerodrome in Surrey.

Piers said he had spoken to Freddie's family, and said the TV host is remaining in good spirits.

“I’m told it was a pretty serious crash and that Freddie’s going to be OK, but it might be a little bit more serious than first appreciated,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’m told he’s going to be OK, which is great news, but I’m also told it was a pretty nasty bang and that he’s had surgery and is recovering now and we’ll have to wait and see."

“I’ve been in contact with them privately but I just want to wish him and his family – Rachael, his wife – all the very best and I think we’re all just keeping our fingers crossed that the big man comes through all right.”

It is understood that the crash did not happen at high speed, with all health and safety precautions said to have been in place.

The health and safety watchdog said it was “aware and making inquiries” after the BBC reported the incident, as was standard procedure.

A BBC spokesperson said at the time, “Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning, with crew medics attending the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.”

Jim Parsons finally reveals why he quit the Big Bang Theory

Jim Parsons opened about the “intense summer” that made him realise it was time to step away from his starring role on The Big Bang Theory.

The 47-year-old actor played Sheldon Cooper for 12 seasons on the show before he decided it was time to say goodbye, a decision that ended the show in 2019.

Now he’s revealed why. Appearing on David Tennant Does A Podcast With … Parsons spoke about the reason for his departure.

It turns out that a particularly tough summer spent in New York City gave him a moment of “clarity”.

After finishing Season 11 in summer 2018, he moved to New York to appear in The Boys In The Band on Broadway. He also agreed to film a commercial for Intel. On his way to the commercial shoot, he noticed his dog had become “gravely ill”.

“He just looked so bad and I was so tired and I just started crying,” he told the host. “I was like, ‘This dog’s going to die while I’m off working and I feel so bad.’”

In the end, he and his husband, Todd Spiewak made the tough decision to put their dog down so he would no longer be in pain. He spent the next few days in a dark place, realising something needed to change in his life, but not being sure what.

To top it off, he slipped and broke his foot. He felt one bad thing was happening after the other, which is when Parsons had a moment of “clarity” that the change in his life was bidding farewell to Big Bang Theory.

“The bottom line was that it was a really intense summer,” he said. “The dog passing away, he was 14, and Todd and I had been together for 15 years at that point, so it just was the end of an era.

“I had this moment of clarity that I think you’re very fortunate to get in a lot of ways, of going, ‘Don’t keep speeding by.’ You know? ‘Use this time to take a look around.’ And I did,” he said. “I was like, ‘I gotta make a move.’”

His father died at the age of 52, and he came to a realisation that he would be 46 by the time Season 12 ended, which he was contractually obligated for.

Parsons then spent some time thinking how he would want to spend the next six years.

“I’m not superstitious or anything like that. It was just a context thing,” he told Tennant.

When he returned to Los Angeles, he broke the news to Big Bang Theory writers Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro that he would not entertain the idea of a Season 13.

Lorre explained that he considered moving the show forward without Sheldon, but ultimately decided not to.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

“In a way, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is all about childhood imagination. It recognises that most kids are able to look at our own backyards and see a world of infinite adventure. Rather than limit those adventures to the minds of children, however, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids manages to take that same backyard setting and turn it into the staging ground for an on-screen journey as epic as The Odyssey by shrinking the main characters down to the size of a bug. What’s amazing about this movie all these years later is how it is able to get so much out of its relatively simple premise by throwing nearly every obstacle at these kids that could possibly occur in this situation. As scary as their adventure was, though, there wasn’t a single kid who saw this movie that wouldn’t have gladly embarked on it at least once.” – Susana Goncalves

6. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had me enthralled with its magic, villains and adventure. Children who believed in themselves, magic and those around them can do anything.” – Adele Smith

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Yes, it’s a great story written by the creator of James Bond – but to be honest I had a massive crush on Dick Van Dyke.” – Sarah Fairley

7. The NeverEnding Story

“The NeverEnding Story has to be the most magical movie from my era. The story had everything a young kid could ask for: a great story, a mythical flying dog and a gripping ending. Our family continues to watch it today.” – Aaron Elliott

“I cried so much when Artax died. I also loved the rock/man thing, and I think it was the first time I had ever heard the name ‘Sebastian’.” – Kate Timms

8. Little Women

“I have really fond memories of my dad taking me to see Little Women. I was pretty impressed that my burly dad would even consider this outing with his two pre-teen daughters. He really enjoyed it.” – Maggie Westbrook

9. The Sound of Music

“It was The Sound of Music. I have such fond memories of this magnificent film, which I saw at some point of my youth in the ‘60s at a drive-in movie theatre in Alice Springs with my parents and sisters. All of us crammed into my father’s HK Holden. It absolutely captivated me from start to finish; the songs, the storyline, the suspense… what wonderful memories.” – Andrew Moore

“When I was young, movies were a treat, With lollies, friends and a canvas seat. There was a special one that I did adore, And many times I’ve gone back for more. The songs, the scenery, the storyline, Always transports me to another time. The Sound of Music is such a classic, My memories of it are so fantastic.” – Joanne Carter

10. Cinderella

“Cinderella. When my mum and dad broke up I really did inherit bad stepsisters who were mean and called me ugly. Luckily I was more like the ugly duckling and grew to be a swan.” – Ann Sculley

5 funniest episodes of Big Bang Theory so far

It seems only yesterday that The Big Bang Theory was bursting onto our screens and quickly become a worldwide hit. In reality, it’s been over 10 years since we first met Sheldon, Penny, and Leonard, and now we can’t imagine life without them. To show our love for the Big Bang crew, here are six of our favourite episodes so far.

1. The Staircase Implementation

In this season three classic, we flash back to when Sheldon and Leonard became roommates. We get the introduction of the Roommate Agreement, a hilarious screening test from Sheldon to decide if Sheldon will make a suitable roommate, and we finally find out why the elevator has been out of order for years.

2. The Barbarian Sublimation

We love it when Penny accidentally geeks out, and this gem from season two is a delight. With the world seemingly against her, Penny finds solace in the world of online gaming, and quickly becomes obsessed with Age of Conan – a fantasy game she becomes so wrapped up in, she stays glued to the desk for days.

3. The Flaming Spitoon Acquisition

Finally, at the halfway point of season five, Sheldon’s relationship with Amy (who, at this point, is a girl and a friend, but not a girlfriend) reaches a turning point when she catches the eye of Stuart, the owner of the comic book store. Sheldon underestimates Amy’s intentions as well as his own feelings for her, and the hilarious result is watching his jealousy play out during Amy and Stuart’s date.

4. The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis

In this early classic, Penny shows her understanding of Sheldon by gifting him a serviette used and autographed by Leonard Nimoy himself. The gift is the perfect combination of exciting and gross, resulting in a moment that is the perfect combination of funny and sweet.

5. The Opening Night Excitation

While Sheldon plans a special night for Amy’s birthday, Leonard, Raj, and Howard have to figure out who can use the spare ticket for the new Star Wars movie. What’s great about this episode is that Sheldon decided to put his love for Amy above his love for Star Wars.

Which episode of Big Bang Theory is your favourite?
